Hello Volunteers!
I discovered something clever Lemony Snicket/ Daniel Handler did this afternoon. I knew I needed to share it with the fandom!
I was assigned to research a poet for my English class, so I chose Ogden Nash, Isadora Quagmire's favorite poet. I learned that he specialized in writing couplets and... wait, what?! Triplets!
Of course, I thought that was funny that Isadora's favorite poet wrote triplets. But I was curious what the difference is between a couplet and and triplet. Why did Daniel Handler have Isadora Quagmire write couplets instead of triplets? Wouldn't it be clever for a triplet to write triplets?
A triplet is a poem with three stanzas. A couplet is a poem with two stanzas.
One might even say, "A couplet is a triplet when one stanza goes missing.".
Ha. Very clever, Lemony Snicket ;)
