I have a theory that Count Olaf decided to get revenge on Lemony Snicket and Beatrice Baudelaire, so he set fire to the Baudelaire mansion. He probably did it because Beatrice and Lemony killed his father with the Poison Darts, later mention in The Penultimate Peril. He also set fire probably because Beatrice stole the Sugar Bowl from Esme, his girlfriend. He then pretended to be related to the Baudelaires and became the Baudelaire children's guardian. He then intended to steal the Baudelaire fortune but was told by Mr.Poe that he could no longer become the Baudelaire children's guardian. Then, Count Olaf committed many crimes but failed to get his filthy hands on the Baudelaire fortune because he died at The End. That's what I think. If you think I'm wrong or correct, please share in the comments. Thank you!
