The Anwhistle family consist in the brothers Gregor and Ike Anwhistle. During his life, Ike was married to Josephine Anwhistle.

Little is known about Gregor and Ike's mother. Josephine stated that she had one eyebrow and one ear,[1] which was also a feature of a student that Ishmael had. If these are the same character, it means that she is an orphan and has siblings, and was at some point concerned about being poisoned by her guardian.[2]

Gregor was an ichnologist who founded Anwhistle Aquatics and studied the Medusoid Mycelium there before Fernald and Captain Widdershins burned the center down. Gregor died in the fire.[3]

Ike was married to Josephine Anwhistle, and the two lived in a house on a cliff overlooking Lake Lachrymose. Both were attacked, on two separate occasions, by Lachrymose Leeches.

Beatrice Baudelaire shared the Anwhistle family trait of being able to whistle with crackers in her mouth; she was noted to be the first cousin once removed of the Anwhistle brothers, making her the cousin of one of their parents.[1]

Gregor, Ike and Josephine were known VFD Volunteers.

It is possible that Gregor and Ike are on the Snicket family tree; their mother, Josephine's mother-in-law, had only one eyebrow and one ear,[1] which was also a feature of a student that Ishmael had.[2] Seeing as Jacques Snicket also had a unibrow,[4] this could be a family trait.

D. Snicket, on the family tree, has three children; G, H, and I. If G and I on the Snicket family tree are Gregor and Ike, the H on the tree is a sibling of theirs; the gender, whereabouts and status of this sibling is unknown, though they are often theorized to be Hector.[5]

  • The family's surname comes from a pun; when said fast, Ike Anwhistle's name is "I can whistle," referencing his and Beatrice Baudelaire's shared ability to whistle with crackers in their mouth.[1]
