The Dissonant Tortoise is a species of tortoise that was kept in Monty Montgomery's Reptile Room.
Description[]
The Dissonant Tortoise is a species of tortoise that seems to be very anxious, and can only be soothed by the music of Alexander Scriabin, a nineteenth century Russian composer, or early works of Sonic Youth, an alternative rock band from the 1980s and 90s.
Two specimens of the species were kept in Monty Montgomery's Reptile Room and shown to the Baudelaire children. Both tortoises had tiny headphones to play their calming music, one teal and one red.[1]
Trivia[]
- The Dissonant Tortoises, while not mentioned in the book version of the episodes they appeared in, have a similar name to the Dissonant Toad.
