The Doctors Sobol were two veterinarians who lived in Stain'd-by-the-Sea and ran the Sobol Office, where they treated the pets of the townspeople. They had a son, Oliver Sobol, who trained under them in veterinary science. Oliver's father kept a garden of zinnias behind the office, orange and yellows that matched the building trim. They managed to get a rare specimen of an Amaranthine Newt and its eggs, which they kept in the office.
After the economy crashed, several citizens of Stain'd-by-the-Sea left town, leaving the doctors with little business. Oliver's father got a job at an aquatic animal center and amusement park just outside the city, Amphibians-A-Go-Go.
The Doctors Sobol left town, though they left Oliver behind for a few more months to run the business and to look after the Amaranthine Newt, while Oliver's father took its eggs with him to Amphibians-A-Go-Go.
Most of the story is unknown, as only the conclusion was listed in File Under: 13 Suspicious Incidents, but it is known that Lemony Snicket solved a case involving them. It sounds as if the Amaranthine Newt's eggs hatched, and the doctors were framed for attempting to steal them; however, Snicket noted that if the Doctors had wanted to hatch the eggs, they would have smuggled them in their coats, which were left hanging near a drafty window and thus wouldn't have been warm enough to hatch. The stolen eggs were returned and Snicket celebrated with a rootbeer float.
