- Edgar Poe: How'd you do it?
- Violet Baudelaire: Do what?
Edgar Poe is the son of Arthur and brother of Albert Poe. In the books, he is the son of Polly Poe and nephew of Eleanora Poe. In the TV series, he is the son of Eleanora, whose character has been combined with Polly's.
Biography[]
Edgar and Albert are described as loud and obnoxious boys. When his father announces that the Baudelaires are leaving, after having had to stay with the family for some time, Edgar complains that Sunny bites, and tosses a chicken bone to the floor. While the Baudelaires pack, Edgar and Albert help their mother clear the table, and Sunny solemnly bites Edgar and Albert's shoes so that they won't forget her.[1]
Netflix Series Divergent Canon[]
Edgar and Albert only appear in the first episode, where they argue over dinner about whether their mother prepared a crow or a raven.
He has several books on his side of the bedroom. As soon as his parents leave the room, he asks the Baudelaire children how they set the fire, meaning that he believes they burned down their house and murdered their parents.
Lemony Snicket said that one of the brothers followed their father into the banking world, while the other "lives in a cave and talks to sheep," and each thinks the other has it better.[2]
Trivia[]
- His name and his brother's name are allusions to Edgar Allan Poe.
- They may also be allusions to Edgar Albert Guest; whose poetry Lemony Snicket rates as "awkward, tedious poetry on hopelessly sentimental subjects".
- His only appearance is in The Bad Beginning.
- He is portrayed by Kaniel Jacob-Cross in the TV series.
