Foreman Firstein was the foreman at Lucky Smells Lumbermill before Foreman Flacutono. According to Phil, he was nicer than Flacutono but the week before the Baudelaires arrived at the mill he had stopped showing up for work. It is implied that Count Olaf or his accomplices murdered him.

His surname, "Firstein", is likely a reference to the management term "first in first out"
