The Grandfather Clock Toaster was an invention by Violet Baudelaire which when strikes each hour, can toast two pieces of bread. Violet mentions that when the bread is toasted the minute hand falls behind 5 minutes. In The Bad Beginning: Part One, when Klaus suggests to Violet that the reason the clock was falling behind was a problem with the gears, she says, "That would be disappointing, I made them myself"
