Gregor Anwhistle was the brother of Ike Anwhistle and brother-in-law of Josephine Anwhistle.
History[]
Gregor was the founder of Anwhistle Aquatics, a marine research center and rhetorical advice service, located directly above the Gorgonian Grotto.[2]
Through a program called Volatile Fungus Deportation, he grew Medusoid Mycelium in the Gorgonian Grotto, and studied its poison for use as a weapon against the enemies of V.F.D. Kit Snicket warned Gregor that if he continued his research, great danger would come to the facility. The poison's antidote was reveled to be horseradish, or any of its culinary equivalents (which include wasabi).
Despite working on the noble side of V.F.D., Gregor's plans for the Medusoid Mycelium cause the Baudelaires to question his loyalties. Fiona suggests that Gregor was volatile, just like the Mycelium.
Gregor Anwhistle was killed in the Anwhistle Aquatics fire, which, according to the Daily Punctilio, was set by Fernald.
In The Grim Grotto, it is also mentioned that Gregor was an ichnologist, a person who studies footprints.
Netflix Series Divergent Canon[]
In The Grim Grotto, Fiona tells the Baudelaires that Gregor and Ike worked together at Anwhistle Aquatics and that Ike tried to prevent Gregor experimenting the Medusoid Mycelium and that after Gregor refused to what Ike said. After that, they never spoke to each other again.
Trivia[]
- In The Grim Grotto, Lemony Snicket briefly mentions a kidnapped ichnologist when defining the phrase "half the battle". Since Gregor is an ichnologist, this could imply that Gregor survived the Anwhistle Aquatics fire and is being held hostage somewhere nearby.
