Haruki was a VFD recruit, training at the same time as Lemony Snicket and Hector. They followed Lemony's ideals about changing VFD for the better, though their chaperones disproved.

After Lemony disappeared, Haruki is noted to have been worried.

Years later, a patient named Haruki Murakami is listed in Heimlich Hospital, potentially dying in the later fire. It is unknown if this is the same Haruki.
