The Jelly Baby in The Miserable Mill
The Jelly Baby was a stand-in for Presley Smith during the filming of A Series of Unfortunate Events (TV series).
It was designed to look similar to the young actress and it would stand in for her when the camera was not focused on her character. It was mostly used in Season 1. Jacqueline Robbins and Joyce Robbins recall the process of Presley's image being lasered into a computer and when the model was completed, they brought the little actress in and sat her next to her doppelgänger. Jacqueline and Joyce reported that Presley did a double take and laughed upon seeing herself. However they tried to use the "Jelly Baby" as little as possible because the audience would notice. The Stand-In doll was also often used when the scenes were being blocked and nothing was actually being filmed. During an interview Malina Weissman noted that the Jelly Baby was actually heavier than Presley. They named the Stand-In doll "Little Kenny".
There were actually two different designs of dolls. There was the stand-in doll that was used for practicing scenes that used Sunny without Presley Smith (Who's time on set was extremely limited due to child labor laws) and did not have a costume and was smaller. Then there was the "Jelly Baby" who was used when stuff was actually being filmed.
In Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events there was a robotic baby that would stand in for Kara and Shelby Hoffman, who played Sunny Baudelaire
