The night has a thousand eyes, and the day but one; yet the light of the bright world dies with the dying sun. The mind has a thousand eyes, and the heart but one: yet the light of a whole life dies when love is done.

— Kit Snicket's final words, The End

Kit Snicket was the sister of Lemony and Jacques Snicket, the daughter of E. and Jacob Snicket, granddaughter of Chas. Snicket, and the mother of Beatrice Baudelaire II. She was a member of the fire-fighting side of V.F.D.

Personality[]

Kit is known for her willingness to throw herself into the fray for VFD, often going on difficult and usually dangerous missions such as appropriating from the Museum of Items. [9]

Unlike other guardians, she isn't much for being overprotective, letting the children take a more active role in their relationship. She sends Quigley Quagmire on a helicopter to defeat eagles and disguising the Baudelaires as concierges in their infiltration of Hotel Denouement.[10] This was in line with her V.F.D. upbringing,[11][9] in which she was sent on similar missions.

Perhaps one of the most ambiguous parts of Kit's past is her relationship with Count Olaf; they were known to have been in a romantic relationship at least at some point. However, due to unforseen circumstances at the theatre, and the fact that Count Olaf went dark, the two were forced to break off. Even in the end, even under the hostile circumstances Kit expressed that she never gave up on Count Olaf and Olaf helped her to give birth to Beatrice Baudelaire II, even though the father is speculated to be most likely Dewey Denouement [12]

Kit has shown on numerous occasions that she is a person of great moral strengths; she shows doubt over the morality of using the children for V.F.D.'s ends, and shows great care and concern over the well-being of the children, even bringing Violet Baudelaire a new hair ribbon.[10] She also has a strong love for her family, and seems incredibly close to her younger brother Lemony, at least during their childhood.[7]

Like her siblings, Kit is shown to be very intelligent and philosophical.[10][2] As a kid, she was incredibly courageous and strong-willed with a bit of a rebellious and outspoken nature, which could sometimes get her into danger and trouble.[9]

While her main interest seems unknown, it is very likely that Kit is an engineer; she is mentioned as having helped build a submarine[8] and Lemony describes an impressive mechanism as something that would interest her.[7]

She seems to be a well-liked member of VFD and has several friends including the Duchess of Winnipeg,[4] Captain Widdershins, and Thursday;[2] she also seems to have made friends with Ellington Feint.[13]

Biography[]

Early life[]

Kit was born as the younger twin of Jacques Snicket, and the daughter of Jacob and E. She later became the older sister of Lemony. After her younger brother's birth, her family became close associates with the cheesemakers at Valorous Farms Dairy.[5]

Kit was recruited into VFD when she was about four; they were kidnapped out their kitchen window, halfway through tea,[5] on February 26.[1] It was around this time that the schism began in V.F.D.[10] As she grew up, she played a major role in the Volunteer side of the schism.

Her brothers would play a game when they were young called Beethoven, where they would pretend they could not hear each other well when they were talking. Kit refused to play because she thought it was inane.[7]

Lemony recalled, at one point, one time the Snicket family took a hike on a windy day, and their mother saved them from a falling branch. As Kit and her siblings stood gaping, their mother told them that "We Snickets take care of our own."[9]

VFD Training[]

If you're not scared, it's not bravery.

— Kit Snicket[7]
Kitr

Young Kit and Duchess R.

Kit became friends with R, the future Duchess of Winnipeg, during her training.[5] She also befriended Bertrand and Beatrice Baudelaire. At some point, she kept a diary, which Lemony found under her pillow.[9] She is also mentioned to be good with a skeleton key.[13]

Kit was very close with Lemony. She used to put a hand on cheek, when he was young, to show that she was listening.[13] She would often refer to him as "L", which was a nickname he disliked. At some point, she "practically" had to lock Lemony in his room in order to get him to start reading The Wind in the Willows.[7] She also informed him which caves had bats in them, so he could take Beatrice,[4] and he says that she "always had a knack for knowing the right question to ask."[11]

Kit may have been interested in engineering or mechanics; she is known to have helped build a submarine,[8] and upon inspecting an iron gate, Lemony says that it was the sort of mechanism she would admire.[7]

All the Wrong Questions[]

Look around. Look at everything in plain sight. The bed, the table, every object you see has likely been in the world when we're gone. It is things that have a history, L. Compared to them we are ghosts.

— Lemony's imaginary Kit Snicket, Shouldn't You Be in School?
Kitsniktwait

Kit waiting for Lemony at the train station.

Kit was apprenticed at a library in the city. She planned to meet Lemony there, so they could plan a break-in to the Museum of Items. She planned to meet Lemony at the train station and receive notes from him, and the next day, Lemony would sneak away for lunch so they could both measure the hole that was being dug for the Fountain of Victorious Finance. Lemony, unfortunately, was sidetracked; his chaperone, who was supposed to take him to the same city, instead took him to Stain'd-by-the-Sea, meaning he couldn't meet Kit at the train station as they'd planned. She received a message from the library in Stain'd-by-the-Sea, reading, "Sorry, but I cannot meet you at the fountain." Kit replied with "Don't worry, I'll measure it myself."[11]

Kit manages to call Lemony in the hotel of The Lost Arms, and they communicate in code, as Kit pretends to be asking survey questions. She communicates to him that they wouldn't be able to talk through library requests anymore, and he warns her to abandon the plan rather than go alone. Before she can protest, he tells her to give Jacques his regards and hangs up.

KitPickaxe

Kit plans to break into the Museum of Items.

Using a tunnel underneath the fountain, Kit goes to the museum anyway, managing to steal and hide the item she needed, but she could not escape the police; she is caught trying to open a hatch that was too heavy for one person to open.[9]

Kit is briefly mentioned in File Under: 13 Suspicious Incidents, in the incident "Vanished Message"; when Lemony receives a letter from the city, he hopes it brings him news of Kit.

Lemony receives a newspaper article about her, saying that she'd been arrested for breaking and entering, and that she was likely to go to prison. Later, Josephine delivers him more news, informing him that Gifford and Ghede had been assigned to help her but ended up making things worse. Lemony mentions that she may not need help, as she's very good with a skeleton key.[7]

KitEllington

"I saw [Kit] extending her hand, as she did whenever she met someone new."

Kit is transferred to her trial on The Thistle of the Valley train, kept in the second prison car. During the unfortunate events that take place on the train, Lemony continuously writes letters to her in his head.

Ellington Feint is transferred to her cell after being framed for the murder of Dashiell Qwerty. Kit sees her brother, Lemony, outside of the cell, and they pretend not to recognize each other. As the door closes, Kit extends her hand in greeting towards Ellington. Lemony is reassured that the two of them will soon know each other, and that Ellington has a skeleton key with her.[13]

Unknown Points in Time[]

She once was in a relationship with Count Olaf - or at the very least was involved physically with him. It is not known when they were together or how long they were intimate.[2]

Kit assisted in the murder of Count Olaf's parents by driving Beatrice and Bertrand to the opera and delivering the poison darts, which were almost intercepted by Esmé Squalor.[10]

Sometime before the events of The End, Olaf and Kit's relationship ended, and Olaf vowed he'd kiss her one last time.[2]

It is implied she is also the object of Dewey Denouement's affections, because he whispers her name when he dies; Kit is also extremely distressed to learn from the Baudelaires that he is dead. He is a possible candidate for who she was referring to when she mentioned her lost "true love", but Kit only ever describes Dewey as an associate and gentleman. The two worked together for years documenting the actions of the firestarters that they hoped to put on trial.[10]

Kit mentions she was friends with Thursday and he helped her in a time of great struggle.[2]

Kit assisted Captain Widdershins in the construction of the Queequeg. She and her brothers fought against Café Salmonella after the restaurant wiped out the fleet of V.F.D. salmon.[8]

Kit once said to Lemony that a tea set would be a handy place to hide anything important and small in the event of a dark day. Lemony later notes that her other suggestion, "that a simple combination of sliced mango, black beans, and chopped celery mixed with black pepper, lime juice, and olive oil would make a delicious chilled salad", was also correct.[14]

Kit was told by several associates about The Island, which held mechanical wonders, and enormous library, and gourmet meals.

Adulthood[]

Please, do not become the thing you dread most by adopting the destructive tactic of our most villainous enemies: playing with fire.

— Kit Snicket in a letter to Gregor Anwhistle[8]

Kit was presumably the "K" listed in the VFD meeting transcript, where she doubts J's assertion that enemies have infiltrated VFD.

When Lemony went on the run, Jacques warned him not to telephone Kit. It is unknown whether or not Kit knew he was alive; however, a letter to her from Lemony was included in The Unauthorized Autobiography, in which Lemony says that they are in danger and he wonders who could help the Baudelaire orphans.

R wrote a letter to Kit, asking her to hide important letters for her from the Vineyard of Fragrant Grapes, possibly with Ike or the cheesemakers.[5]

Kit also wrote a letter to her friend Gregor Anwhistle, warning him about the danger of the Volatile Fungus Deportation program - do not use the poisonous mushrooms, Medusoid Mycelium. She was working on the way to dilute the poison at Opportune Odors Horseradish Factory on Lousy Lane, but feared that it would not be enough should the mushrooms be released. She begged him not to fight fire with fire; soon afterwards, Anwhistle Aquatics was burnt down by Widdershins and Fernald.[8]

During A Series of Unfortunate Events[]

Bannedbooks

Kit's book list.

At some point, Kit became pregnant. It is unknown who the father of the child is; Count Olaf is her only named love interest, but it is unknown how long their relationship lasted, and while Dewey Denouement seemed to love her, it is unknown if she reciprocated.

Kit went to Prufrock Preparatory School disguised as a teacher (Ms. K) after the Baudelaires left the school, replacing Mr. Remora after he choked on a banana and retired. She had her students read books relating to V.F.D. as well as her brother's A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Vice Principal Nero fired her when he read an article in The Daily Punctilio given to him by Mr. and Mrs. Spats that warned against that particular list of books. When Nero informed her of his decision, Kit grabbed two orphaned students by the ankles and ran off, recruiting them into V.F.D.[5]

When the archives of The Daily Punctilio were destroyed, Kit gathered several papers that blew around the financial district, near the archives, in hopes of finding papers that could possibly clear Lemony's name, if he was still alive. She sent the papers to the cheesemakers at Valorous Farms Dairy in hopes that they could help.[5]

Kit and Lemony both opened an investigation into Jacques's disappearance.[1]

Lemony tried to send her two messages, hidden in passages of his books; it is unknown if she received any. First was in The Carnivorous Carnival, in which Lemony informed her that he was alive and heading north to find her, and second was in The Slippery Slope, in which he said that he hoped that nobody would pick up the depressing books but her, in order to receive messages. He said that he learned the whereabouts of the evidence that would exonerate him, and he would try to meet her at Hotel Denouement.

Kit learned of Jacques's death, and was saddened but not shocked; she swore to never leave her bed, but then got hungry and checked the fridge, to find Verbal Fridge Dialogue from Quigley Quagmire, who had been separated from the Baudelaire orphans. She met with him in an abandoned bathrobe emporium, where they disguised themselves as mannequins to plan. They sent a Volunteer Factual Dispatch to the Queequeg, planning to meet the Baudelaires at Briny Beach, but when Quigley received word that his siblings were being attacked in the Self-Sustaining Hot Air Mobile Home, Kit helped him steal a helicopter from a botanist to meet them.

At some point, Charles sent her maps, poems and blueprints. She went to the remains of the burned Heimlich Hospital to find any information or evidence. She found Hal in a dismal state, for the Library of Records was destroyed and there was no place for him to go. She then gave him shelter and a job as both cook and researcher at the Hotel Denouement, recruiting him into V.F.D.[10]

The day before she picks up the Baudelaires, Kit shared Turkish coffee with Thursday, who had been on the island, and claimed that the Oyster Rockefellers there were the best, though he did mention that the island had suffered a schism. A waiter slipped Kit a note from Frank Denouement inside a fortune cookie, informing her that someone with the initials J.S. had checked into the hotel and requested tea with sugar; Kit was under the impression that somebody was impersonating her brother. Kit and Frank planned for the Baudelaires to impersonate employees at the hotel in order to make sure the delivery of the Sugar Bowl went as planned.[10]

Kit managed to successfully meet the Baudelaires on Briny Beach, and drove them away in her taxi for their mission.

The Penultimate Peril[]

I'm distraught. That's my condition. I'm distraught and I'm pregnant.

— Kit Snicket, The Penultimate Peril
KitBrunch

Kit has brunch with Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire.

Kit drives a taxi with the Baudelaires as her passengers. She takes them to a meeting at Hotel Denouement where they will have brunch and she would give them their mission. She warns them that a taxi is following them, and a taxi will pick up anyone who signals for one, so she believes it holds wicked people. She drives the taxi through the hedges of Hotel Denouement to escape.

She serves brunch to the Baudelaires and explains their mission to them; they are to infiltrate the hotel, disguised as concierges, and make certain that the Sugar Bowl made its way to a noble person, and that the trial for Count Olaf on Thursday went well. She is very vague when describing how they will be able to tell a noble person from a wicked one, and says that she hopes to meet up with Captain Widdershins, the Quagmire Triplets, and Hector, to reach the hotel by Thursday for the meeting.

Kit tells them that if something goes wrong to signal her, and that she will be watching the skies; while it is never directly stated, it is implied that Kit expects them to burn down the hotel, as she references their hopes "going up in smoke." She cries, distraught, and leaves the Baudelaires to their mission.

After Kit leaves the Baudelaires at the hotel, Lemony Snicket mentions Kit went to waterski towards Captain Widdershins, and later on, she waterskis away from him.

Between The Penultimate Peril and The End[]

According to Kit, she, Captain Widdershins and his stepchildren, Fiona and Fernald, repair his submarine and reach the Quagmires and Hector just as the self-sustaining hot air mobile home is wrecked by eagles and crashes into the submarine. In the crash, a telegram device lands on Kit's legs, injuring both of them.

Kit makes a Vaporetto of Favorite Detritus, out of her various favorite books, but all of the others were either captured or rescued by the mysterious question mark-shaped object, "The Great Unknown". Kit somehow inexplicably crossed paths with the Incredibly Deadly Viper who kept her company on the raft.[2]

The End[]

Let it flood. I can't do it, Baudelaires. I've lost too many people- my parents, my true love, and my brothers.

— Kit Snicket, The End

Kit washes onto the coastal shelf with the Incredibly Deadly Viper near the island aboard the raft of books, unconscious and injured. Count Olaf attempts to disguise himself as Kit, but the islanders are able to see through it and imprison him.

Kit regains consciousness after the Baudelaires are banished from the island, and is unsurprised to learn of their location. She plans to return to the world and ensure that justice is served, as she does not know what happened to the Hotel Denouement and Dewey. Finn and Erewhon arrive with food for the Baudelaires, and request their assistance in providing weapons for a revolution against Ishmael. Kit tries to forbid the Baudelaires from doing so, but they agree under the condition that Finn and Erewhon ensure Kit's safety. She tells the Baudelaires that she wishes things were different.

Like the islanders, Kit is poisoned by the Medusoid Mycelium when Ishmael and Olaf release it. She tries to tell the islanders about the cure, hidden on the other side of the island in hybrid horseradish apples, but Ishmael convinces them to drink cordial, drugging them into complacency so that they abandon the island instead. Around this time, she goes into labor.

When the Baudelaires return, she refuses the hybrid horseradish apple as a cure because it will harm the baby, as there's an ingredient in the hybrid apple that is harmful to babies in utero. She cries upon learning that Dewey has died, and begs the Baudelaires to take care of her child after she is gone.

Upon finding out that Kit is in danger, Count Olaf carries Kit to the beach, during which he surprisingly kisses Kit . In pain during the birth, Kit quotes to Count Olaf an excerpt of a poem written by Francis William Bourdillon: "The night has a thousand eyes, and the day but one; yet the light of the bright world dies with the dying sun. The mind has a thousand eyes, and the heart but one: yet the light of a whole life dies when love is done."

Kit dies after giving birth to her daughter, who is named after the Baudelaires' mother, Beatrice. The Baudelaires bury her and Olaf on the island. When visiting her grave, the Baudelaires often left flowers in her memory.

VFD reported her "either missing or on vacation" on January 27.[1]

Netflix Series Divergent Canon[]

Kit's role in the Netflix series is greatly expanded, and her personality and wardrobe receive dramatic make overs as Kit appears as the "sporty" Snicket sibling. She appears much younger than her two brothers, suggesting a change in the birth order in the series.

Rather than a "distraught" woman who breaks down and displays moral ambiguity, Kit is a confident, determined agent of VFD, who is willing to die for her child, despite having previously risked her life and her child's life for the sake of VFD's cause - an organization she then is revealed to be leaving after having recruited the Baudelaire orphans.

Unknown Points in Time[]

KitOlafOpera

Kit and Olaf at the opera.

She attended the play La Forza del Destino and was also friends with Esmé Squalor and Beatrice Baudelaire. Just before Beatrice accidentally killed Count Olaf's father with a poison dart, Kit tried to calm everyone down and reminded them they were all friends, but it was too late. The death of Olaf's father caused Olaf and Esmé to drift away from Beatrice and the Snickets.

Kit was the faceless woman in the TV series from the flashback of the headquarters in The Carnivorous Carnival: Part One, writing the secret note saying "Olaf Knows". This is evidenced as they both have brown hair and red gloves.

At some point between the night at the opera and her appearance in the second season, Kit and Dewey became romantically involved, and she became pregnant with his child. The two planned to leave VFD together and raise their child somewhere far away.

During the Series[]

TaxiWoman

Kit watches The Caligari Carnival burn.

Kit first initially as a faceless woman with red gloves in the flashback.

Kit was the former Madame Lulu, which was established in the TV series as a rotation position for VFD women. She switched places with Olivia Caliban, keeping with the books' implication that Count Olaf was involved with Madame Lulu, as he would have had a relationship with the previous Madame Lulu. Kit took her brother's taxi, and retrieved the sugar bowl at the burning Heimlich Hospital. She eventually went to Caligari Carnival, only to find it burning.

PoeWoman

Kit protecting Mr. Poe from Snow Gnats.

In The Slippery Slope, Kit flees from the Man with a Beard but No Hair and the Woman with Hair but No Beard. Later, Kit crosses paths with Arthur Poe. He offers Kit to work as his secretary and misunderstands her as accepting the position. Mr. Poe and Kit are then attacked by Snow Gnats. Kit eventually drives Mr. Poe back to the city where they discover it's on fire. The Man with a Beard but No Hair and the Woman With Hair but no Beard inform Olaf of their encounter with Kit, in which they refer to her as the ‘Snicket Girl.’ This piqued Olaf’s interest, and asked if she survived, but his mentors said nothing more about the incident and went straight to the Sugar Bowl.

In The Grim Grotto, Kit goes to Mulctuary Money Management to use Poe's telegraph. She receives a Volunteer Factual Dispatch from Fiona that the sugar bowl is in the Gorgonian Grotto. Kit writes back "sending help". Later, Kit appears in a taxi at the end of The Grim Grotto. Poe again calls her his secretary, but Kit insists she is not, then takes the Baudelaires to Hotel Denouement.

Deweykit2

Kit and Dewey meet.

In The Penultimate Peril, her role is mainly the same in the book, although she gets followed in a car chase by the Man and Woman from The Slippery Slope. Kit tells the Baudelaires not to worry too much because she claims the tables are going to turn against the Fire-Starting Side in favor of the Fire-Fighting Side. She mentions she wishes she could answer their questions over a leisurely brunch (a reference to their brunch in the book), but their time is pressed and so she debriefs them on their mission to infiltrate Hotel Denouement disguised as concierges to learn J.S.' identity before Thursday. After dropping off the Baudelaires, Dewey surprises her and they share a kiss.

Snicketspyglasses

Lemony and Kit see Hector and the Quagmires are in danger.

Immediately after, Kit is shocked to find her brother Lemony alive in her taxi and she informs him about Jacques' death. At night, Kit and Lemony visit Briny Beach and she informs him they have lost many of their comrades. Kit tries to convince Lemony to join V.F.D. again to help out their situation. Lemony confuses the Baudelaires for being Kit's children, but she tells him they are the Baudelaire children. A signal flare is activated in the sky. Using their spyglasses, Kit and Lemony see the Self-Sustaining Hot Air Mobile Home about to be brought down by a flock of V.F.D. eagles. Kit goes to the nearby Queequeg in an attempt to rescue Hector and the Quagmires, while Lemony drives to the hotel to help the Baudelaires.

OlafSavingKit

Olaf uses his remaining strength to save Kit's life.

In The End, on the island, Kit reveals what is in the sugar bowl to the Baudelaires. She does not immediately take the curing apple because she does not want to risk the chance of harming her baby. A dying Olaf helps save Kit from drifting away by the rising shore. He asks to see Kit's eyes and when she looks at him, Olaf and Kit share poetry together. The Baudelaires help Kit give birth and by nightfall, Kit and the Baudelaires rest in a tent. Kit decides to name her Beatrice after the Baudelaires' mother. Despite eating the apple after giving birth, Kit realizes her infection has progressed too far and that she will die from the Medusoid Mycelium anyway. As Kit holds her daughter, she asks the Baudelaires to promise her that they will protect Beatrice so she will not be alone in the world. Kit violently coughs and falls unconscious as she dies. After her death, the Baudelaires bury her on the island with Olaf after writing the letter "K" on a rock to remember her.

Kit is portrayed by Allison Williams.

Physical Appearance[]

Books[]

KitArt

Kit in the books.

Although there are few illustrations of Kit by Brett Helquist who drew Kit as having glasses and possessing light-colored hair, however, it was described as long and messy in the book. The shade may be interpreted as light brown, ginger orange or blonde. She also wears two pencils in her hair at odd angles and seems to also have a comb in it on the cover of The Penultimate Peril.

On the cover of The Penultimate Peril, she appears to be wearing orange-and-blue Oriental/Asian clothing. However, in the book itself, it says she wears a very elegant black coat, buttoned up all the way to her chin, and tucked into the lapel was a flower that had seen better days, having lost most of its petals and wilted considerably. She is also frequently mentioned to be wearing white gloves.

She had a kind face, but there were lines of worry across her brow, and it looked like she hadn't slept properly for quite some time. If the Baudelaires had been asked to guess Kit's condition, they would have said she looked like a woman who had been through much hardship. On the cover of The Penultimate Peril, her cheeks are quite rosy.

Like many of the earlier V.F.D. members, Kit has an eye tattoo on her left ankle.

Netflix[]

KitTattoo

Kit's eye tattoo.

In the TV series, Kit has long dark brown hair and gray eyes. Her hair color is likely brown in order to match her brothers, both of whom have similar coloring to her.

Like the books, she also has a tattoo of an eye on her ankle.

She wears a variety of outfits throughout the series. During the Opera shown in flashbacks from The Penultimate Peril: Part Two, she wears a white necklace, long white gloves, and a red dress. During The Slippery Slope: Part One and Part Two, as well as The Grim Grotto: Part One and Part Two she wears a lilac shirt, black jacket, red scarf, red gloves, brown trousers, and brown boots, as well as Beatrice Baudelaire’s Dragonfly Wings, which are hidden. She wears this outfit in The Penultimate Peril: Part One when meeting Dewey Denouement, but she loses the red scarf. In her last appearance, The End, she wears a white dress.

And Sunny, you're standing on your own two feet, and so many of your teeth are growing in that they don't appear to be of such unusual size, as they were when you were a baby. You're not children anymore, Baudelaires. You're volunteers, ready to face the challenges of a desperate and perplexing world."
  • "I don't know. I'm sorry, Baudelaires. I failed you. You succeeded in your noble errands at the Hotel Denouement, and saved Dewey and the others, but I don't know if we'll ever see the Quagmires and their companions again. I hope you will forgive my failures, and when I see Dewey again I hope he will forgive me, too."

Trivia[]

  • The name "Kit" is a diminutive of "Katherine," which could have several different meanings, including "each of the two," "torture," "my consecration of your name" or "pure."[15]
    • Kit herself was named after author Kit Reed, a mentor of Daniel Handler's.[16]
  • According to her official ATWQ profile, Kit's favorite book (at least at the time of the series) was The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula LeGuin.
  • Despite her refusal to take the cure out of concern for her unborn child, Kit consistently engages in behavior and consumes substances that would be harmful or potentially dangerous for the safety of her child. In the books, Kit consumes two cups of coffee in quick succession at her picnic with the Baudelaires, and later references having "just" had Turkish coffee with Thursday. Caffeine is shown to have negative effects on fetuses, although Kit may not be aware of this given the series is set in a less contemporary era. Kit also water skiis to the Queequeg. In both the books and the show, Kit engages in extremely reckless driving, although sometimes she is being chased. In the show, Kit does not wear a seat belt while driving.
    • Had Kit consumed the cure while in labor, Beatrice would have likely been born without any ill effects, as there would have been no fetal development occurring while in labor.
  • There was a theory Jacquelyn Scieszka was Kit Snicket, as "Jacquelyn" is the feminine form of her brother's name, Jacques. However, this was disproven at the start of season 3.
  • Her death could have occurred January 28. The Calendar states that she was reported "either missing or on vacation" January 27; as the Queequeg was a VFD submarine, they likely would have some notification if it was destroyed, meaning she would quickly be reported missing. If she washed up on The Island the morning after/of the storm, she would have given birth the next day, making her death, Beatrice's birth, and Decision Day happen on January 28. However, the calendar's canonicity has been controversial, and it is also unknown exactly when she was reported missing, so this is not certain.
  • Daniel Handler has a real sister named Rebecca who may have influenced Kit. However, Rebecca is younger than Daniel, while Kit is older than Lemony in the books.
  • Kit's depiction in the Netflix adaptation has stirred up some controversy among the fanbase. While it is generally agreed that Allison Williams is a fine actress, there was concern for her age, as she was twenty-nine while filming. The issue with that being that Kit is the twin of Jacques Snicket, whose actor was in his forties while filming. This sparked anger over whether Kit was intentionally cast and dressed younger due to the Hollywood standard of refusing to cast older women due to sexism.[17][18][19][20]
  • Barry Sonnenfeld's claim that he cast Williams due to her seeming like Kit was met with derision due to his exact quote. He says, "She's sporty, she's smart, she's sassy, she's self-confident, and she's beautiful, which are all the attributes Kit has."[21] The attributes listed, aside from "smart," barely describe the Kit of the books, who is chronically depressed, distraught and guilt-ridden, described as looking tired and weary, and has never been described as "sporty."[10][2] The exception to this is in The Penultimate Peril where she water skiis. The sporty descriptor, in fact, has gained notoriety among the fanbase, becoming a popular joking point.
  • Just like the White-Faced Women, Quagmires, and Denouements, Kit appears to be a twin before the third sibling, Lemony is revealed in The Penultimate Peril. However, this only applies to the children, as Lemony is the narrator and author of the books.

  3. In the reprise of That's Not How The Story Goes in The Penultimate Peril: Part 2, an image of Kit watching Caligari Carnival burn down appears below a newspaper dated October 12, implying that is the date the Carnival burned down. Events seem to pass quickly after that with the Baudelaires spending two days with the Widdershins, then two days at the Hotel, followed by two days on the island before Kit dies, setting the birth of Beatrice (and Kit and Olaf's death) around October 18th
