Muriel Distinguished: Just one sword, which we had displayed in the window.

Muriel Distinguished is a woman who lives in Stain'd-by-the-Sea. She appears in File Under: 13 Suspicious Incidents, in the fifth incident, "Bad Gang." 

Biography

Muriel Distinguished is the owner of her family business, Swords, selling the items it was named after. She buys her decorative squashes from Gourds, across the square.

On a Saturday, Muriel calls the police after finding her store, Swords, vandalized. A window was smashed with a brick, and a sword on display was stolen. The Big Bad Brick Gang left a note claiming responsibility for the crime, saying that nobody will ever figure out what makes them choose a place to strike, and that the police can call them the BBBG for short if they want.

Lemony Snicket asks Muriel if there are other stores with rhyming names- as the previous vandalized store was called Boards- and she responds that down the street was Cords, across the square was Gourds- and she gives him the information, though the Officers Mitchum doubt he has an actual lead.
