History

The Quagmire triplets were heirs to the famous Quagmire Sapphires, a family collection of valuable gems. It is unknown how the Quagmire parents acquired the relics, but it is known that the jewels paid for the Quagmire mansion. They also attracted the attention of Count Olaf.

Olaf

Count Olaf strongly desired the Quagmire Sapphires. As is common of many of his other endeavors, Olaf most likely went about getting them by murdering Mr. and Mrs. Quagmire. However, it is not known for certain that Olaf was responsible for the Quagmire fire. In Book the Fifth, The Austere Academy, Olaf set his sights on using the Quagmire children to gain the sapphires, kidnapping the triplets and hiding them in various locations. However, with the help of the Baudelaires, the Quagmires were eventually able to escape. Afterward, Olaf's interest in the sapphires seemed to wane, and the current status of the gems is unknown.
