Producers
The executive producers on season 1 were Cindy Holland, Brian Wright, Ted Biaselli, Daniel Handler himself, and Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed a number of episodes as well.
Handler and Sonnenfeld were originally supposed to work together on the 2004 film, but neither, in the end, was involved with the final product. Sonnenfeld was booted from the project as director, and Handler's screenplay was thrown out, as well. Many elements of season 1 were inspired by ideas they had when planning the original draft for the film.[1]
They were joined by John Weber and Frank Siracusa, also executive producers, as well as two co-executive producers: Rose Lam and Emily Fox. Neil Patrick Harris was credited as a producer on the series as well.
Writers
While Daniel Handler, writer and creator of the A Series of Unfortunate Events book series, penned the majority of the episodes in this season, he was also joined by Emily Fox, Joe Tracz and Tatiana Suarez-Pico in the writer's room, each of which was credited for one individual episode.
It was not always the case, in this season, that parts one and two of the same story were penned by the same writer. Since each writer besides Daniel Handler did only one episode, "The Reptile Room" was shared by Fox and Handler, and "The Miserable Mill" was split between Tracz and Suarez-Pico.
Directors
Barry Sonnenfeld, also serving as executive producer with Daniel Handler, worked with Handler as director on the majority of his episodes, which is to say "The Bad Beginning" and "The Wide Window". Mark Palansky directed both parts of "The Reptile Room", while Bo Welch directed the season finale, parts one and two of "The Miserable Mill".
Filming
Production began in May 2016,[2] and filming ran through August of the same year.[3] The series is produced in Vancouver by Olaf II Productions Inc.[4]
