The Hinterlands are a wasteland/desert famous for their magnificent blue sunsets. The Baudelaires mentioned that they had always wanted to see the Hinterlands and were promised by their parents that they would visit one day. The Hinterlands are also home to the Caligari Carnival, which is the only attraction in the area. The Caligari Carnival is at the end of the Rarely Ridden Road. It was burnt down at the end of the Ninth Book. In the Lemony Snicket: Unauthorized Autopiography, there is a chapter that talks about Olaf's Assistants. It shows a story about an Old Count, his son, and three professors. The Old Count's son is dimwitted, so his father sends him to three professors. One in the hinterlands, one in The City, and one in the suburbs. It shows that the Old Count, his son, and the three professors are Olaf's assistants. In the Seventh book it also states the Village of Fowl Devotees is in the Hinterlands. The Hinterlands also have the Last Chance General Store and the now remains of the Heimlich Hospital.
