Eventually, Fernald was kicked out of V.F.D. for starting the fire.

In the Netlfix TV series, it was revealed by Esmé Squalor that Beatrice Baudelaire and Lemony Snicket stole The Sugar Bowl and accidently murdered Count Olaf's father with a poison dart meant for Esmé Squalor during a performace of the opera La Forza del Destino. Lemony and Beatrice stole the Sugar Bowl because it contained a kind of sugar developed by V.F.D. that immunized one to The Medusoid Mycelium, but Esmé Squalor would not give it up because "it completed [her] tea set." When Esmé realized her sugar bowl was stolen, she chased Beatrice and Lemony outside with a poison dart one of her fans snuck in for her. Beatrice and Lemony turned around and brandished a poison dart that "one of [Beatrice's] fans snuck in as well." In the Book Series, this fan was revealed to be Kit Snicket, although Kit Snicket was in the booth with Count Olaf at the time, so there are some discrepancies. Beatrice threw her poison dart at Esmé before Esmé could throw hers, but Count Olaf's father stepped in the way of the dart by accident right as Count Olaf and Kit Snicket came out of the booth to inspect the commotion. Lemony Snicket took the blame for killing Count Olaf's father, and spent the next several years on the lam. After Olaf's father was killed, The Man with a Beard but No Hair and The Woman with Hair but No Beard took Olaf in and taught him everything he knows about starting fires. When they were done, Olaf turned his eyes to the Baudelaire Fortune.

The Baudelaire Fire resulted in the death of the Baudelaire Parents and the orphaning of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire. Beatrice Baudelaire may or may not have escaped the fire unbeknownst to her children. Sadly, if she was alive, they never found out. Next, Count Olaf persuaded Mr. Poe to switch the Baudelaires' first guardian of choice from Dr. Montgomery Montgomery to himself (Count Olaf). Jacquelyn Scieszka gets captured (only in the Netflix series). The Baudelaires and Count Olaf then meet after the Baudelaires are taken to him, who was appointed their new guardian. The Pasta Puttanesca Incident happened after that when the Baudelaires made dinner for Olaf and his troupe; however, they were abused due to the fact that Olaf wanted roast beef. Then Klaus Baudelaire discovered Olaf's plan to steal their fortune. However, Sunny was imprisoned in Count Olaf's tower. Then Jacquelyn escaped to the V.F.D. tunnels and met Gustav and they planned to attend the Marvelous Marriage play, which was Count Olaf's evil scheme. Violet then invented a contraption to save Sunny; unfortunately, the Hook-Handed Henchman captured Violet. Olaf puts his plan into action by creating and performing The Marvelous Marriage play. However, Violet used her left hand to sign the marriage document rather than her right hand and therefore the marriage wasn't legal. Count Olaf runs away before the authorities could catch him.

The Baudelaires were sent to their next guardian, Dr. Montgomery Montgomery, or Uncle Monty. They were introduced to Uncle Monty, the Reptile Room, and the Incredibly Deadly Viper. Then the Baudelaires discovered that Uncle Monty's new assistant, Stephano, was actually Count Olaf in disguise. Next Uncle Monty, Stephano, and the Baudelaires watched a movie and Uncle Monty deciphered a secret code that tells him that he and the Baudelaires must travel to Peru (only in Netflix series). In the books (although only mentioned in The Unauthorised Autobiography) Uncle Monty was unaware of the Sebald Code and therefore didn't receive the message they were trying to send him in Zombies in the Snow. Then the Baudelaires discovered that Dr. Montgomery has been murdered, and they suspect Stephano. Next, the Baudelaires tried to convince Mr. Poe that Uncle Monty's death was actually a murder committed by Stephano/Count Olaf. The attempt was successful, but Count Olaf ran away. Count Olaf ran away in the hedge maze while the Baudelaires chased after him. Olaf succeeded at fleeing, but the Baudelaires accidentally found a secret in the hedge maze, which turned out to be Jacquelyn disguised as a statue; Jacquelyn told them to find Aunt Josephine before she chased after Olaf to the Prospero (a ship on Damocles Dock) (only in Netflix series). Jacquelyn confronted Olaf at the Prospero and tried to capture Olaf, but he escaped and Jacquelyn was left behind at the ship, which was sailing to Peru (only in Netflix series).

Mr. Poe put the Baudelaires in a taxi at Damocles Dock and left them. The taxi took them to their Aunt Josephine's house which is hanging on Lake Lachrymose by sketchy looking stilts. The Baudelaires and Aunt Josephine meet for the first time. Josephine turns out to be afraid of everything and constantly corrects everyone's grammar. This is because her husband, Ike, got eaten by leeches. Hurricane Herman approaches, so the Baudalaires and Aunt Josephine head into town to get supplies. Aunt Josephine meets a man named Captain Sham, who the Baudalaires realize is Count Olaf. They try to tell Josephine, but she doesn't believe them. Aunt Josephine and the Baudalaires go back to the house. The phone rings in the middle of dinner and Aunt Josephine, at first afraid, picks it up and it's captain sham. The Baudalaires go upstairs and Captain Sham tells Josephine he's really Count Olaf. She writes a fake suicide note then jumps out the window. The Baudalaires come downstairs and find a big hole in the window and her suicide note. It says they will be put in the care of Captain Sham. In the morning, they call Mr. Poe and he sets up brunch with Captain Sham to go over adoption paperwork. At brunch, the Baudalaires eat a food they are allergic to (offered to them by Larry, a member of the VFD) so they can go back to the house. At the house, Klaus notices many grammatical errors in the note and realizes it's a code. They decipher it and find out Aunt Josephine is still alive and she's at curdled cave. The house starts creaking. Lightning strikes one of the stilts and the entire house falls into the lake, with the Baudalaires just barely escaping. They then steal a sailboat and take it across the lake in the middle of a hurricane, to curdled cave. They find Aunt Josephine and try to sail back to the town. But the boat in eaten by leeches. They are barely saved by Captain Sham. Sham pushes Josephine into the lake and she is eaten by leeches. They get back to the town and Sham is revealed to be Count Olaf. He then runs away and Mr. Poe is left to take the Baudalaires to their new guardian.

After Count Olaf and his troupe escape from Mr. Poe at Damocles Dock, he takes the children by train to Paltryville to put them to their new guardian, Sir, manager of Lucky Smells Lumbermill. Foreman Flacutono (The Bald Man with the Long Nose in disguise in the books, The Hook-Handed Man in the TV series) trip Klaus up, making him go to Dr. Orwell, an Optometrist in cahoots with Count Olaf. She hypnotizes Klaus making him accidentally stamp Phil’s leg. This makes Sir angry and he tells the Baudelaires that if they cause one more accident, they will be sent away. Klaus has tripped up again and this time, Violet and Sunny go with him. They find Count Olaf (dressed as the receptionist, Shirley) who threatens them. The next morning, the girls find Klaus operating the saw machine about to slice Charles, but Violet breaks the spell by shouting “Inordinate,” the trigger word that snaps  Claus out of hypnosis. They save Charles and Dr. Orwell has a sword fight with Sunny (the sword fight is cut out of the Netflix Series) but when Sir comes in, she gets a fright and steps back into the path of the saw (into a fire in the TV series.) Count Olaf’s disguise is revealed but he escapes.

This article lists all of the events that happened in the Lemony Snicket timeline, excluding ATWQ and TMM onward. It would be great if someone who knows a lot of information about ATWQ and ASOUE could add that to the article.

Prior History

Anwhistle fire

(Netflix Series) Gregor Anwhistle and his brother Isaac "Ike" Anwhistle, husband of Josephine Anwhistle, begin work on the Medusoid Mycelium - an extremely deadly fungus - at Anwhistle Aquatics, although Ike left soon afterwards. Fernald Widdershins, aka The Hook-Handed Man and former member of V.F.D, learned of the Medusoid Mycelium and what it could do, and told Gregor through Volunteer Factual Dispatch that he was "playing with fire," and warned him not to "make him do the same." Fernald burned down Anwhistle Aquatics, trapping the Medusoid Mycelium down in The Gorgonian Grotto, an underwater cave below Anwhistle Aquatics. Being a member of V.F.D., he was not supposed to cause fires, but put them out. This event caused tension between members of V.F.D., as he did a wicked thing for noble causes, and was one of the events leading to The Schism. Eventually, Fernald was kicked out of V.F.D. for starting the fire.
