The trolley was a public vehicle that the Baudelaires often take to Briny Beach to explore the area and conduct their experiments. That was, until the day they heard the terrible news from Mr. Poe about the abrupt passing of their parents. In the Netflix series, it is possible that it is also a trolleybus since there are neither tracks nor rails to be seen at many of the stops.

- Dewey Denouement. However, the trolleyman in the Netflix series was portrayed by an actor named Darcey Johnson. Dewey was played by a different actor, which is why he is most likely not the conductor.
